Insights into the Cultural Blind Spot

Mangoro seeks to observe the ‘gap’ that the major trends of contemporary society and culture cannot capture and often overlook and to explore what it implies and connotes.

We intend to embrace and express what we discover and explore in a witty and unexpected way, representing it in Mangoro’s works.

The ultimate goal of Mangoro is to present what we will have found from our research in cultural studies in the form of documentary, video work and visual arts, and furthermore to create products with characters and stories derived from the research process in a humorous and delightful way.

What can embrace all of our interests and major fields of study, such as cultural studies, video works, visual arts and production of goods with our designs, is Mangoro’s business.

Moreover, we hope to collaborate with likeminded artists and industry professionals who share similar interests or goals with Mangoro.

Who we are

Sora Bae

Her undergraduate degree in media & cultural studies allowed her to focus on examining how media shape the society we live in and the cultural implications of media, whereas her master’s studies enabled her to study cultural industry on the whole and to explore the multi-faceted dynamics between today’s culture and industries ranging from a work of art to a governmental policy.

Above all, she investigated key cultural aspects of London through experimental and avant-garde music venues in London since she was fascinated by music venues in London.

In this manner, she intends to penetrate into the contemporary society from a cultural perspective, reflecting it in the Mangoro’s view of the world and Mangoro’s stories, which are the fairy-tale and artistic metaphor for the world we live.

Soyoung Bae

As a versatile visual artist embracing different fields such as video, performance and photography, she has worked on various projects including art exhibitions focusing on video works, projects exploring periphery of culture in cities and indie music videos.

Her art exhibitions have centered around expressing cultural facets of today’s society that diverge from the mainstream.

Also, her works have centered on bringing up an issue to a modern society by creating unfamiliar and odd hybrids which are broken from social conventions.

She intends to extend and develop her interests in beings that vary from the category of ‘normal’ or ‘standard’ to Mangoro’s designs and works.

You can check out her works on her website.
